At its core, "DESCENDANTS" is a musical about empathy, tolerance, and acceptance. The hope is that this show can be a reminder that no matter where we come from, we are better together.

Because this is site-specific, and immersive theatre that takes place both indoors and outdoors, we advise you to wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, light jacket/sweater, etc. to remain comfortable during the show.

Seating is General Admission, and guests will be seated on a first come, first served basis. You are also welcome to bring your own lawn chair, but we will have folding chairs and bleacher seating availalbe for you. Again, seating is general admission and first come first served, and limited to only 100 audience members per show, so reserve your tickets early! 

Restrooms at KIPP Adelante are ADA Compliant and will be availalbe for use for all guests.

PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND SHOES and but be prepared to move along to follow the actors. This show is immersive, so be prepared for an experience! 🙂 

The school is ADA compliant, and we will give priority seating and accessibility to those who need special assistantce. Disabled and elderly audience will given priority in the front bleachers, and led through KIPP campus through easy access pathways. Please email our box office at: to let us know of your accommodations request so we can assist you as best as possible.

Absolutely no photos, videos, or audio recordings of the show whatsoever, please. In addition, please do not use your phone excessively as to not distract fellow audience members or the performers. Do not eat food or snacks during the show. This can be very distracting. And there may be people around you with allergies.

KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy located on Euclid and Market in Southeast San Diego at 426 Euclid Avenue, SD, CA 92114.

In order to ensure the health and safety for our cast, crew, volunteers, families, fellow audience members and anyone else that joins us for the show, we are enforcing COVID-19 Protocols. Please help us keep everyone safe by practicing these measures.

  1. ALL audience members are REQUIRED to provide proof of vaccination, or a Negative PCR COVID test.
  2. Those who are not vaccinated and are taking a COVID Test, must do so 72 hours before the date of the performance. For example – if the show day is on Friday, then plan on testing on Tuesday.
  3. Please be ready to present Negative Test Results once you arrive for check-in at the Ticket Booth. If you test Positive, please do not come to Maraya Performing Arts or the show venue. Please quarantine immediately, and contact the Maraya Performing Arts Administration team to reschedule for the follow week's show (if applicable) or issue a refund for your ticket. If you are getting over COVID and are still testing Positive but asymptomatic, please provide a doctor's note clearing you.
  4. Masks are required at ALL TIMES while at KIPP Adelante. If you need to take off your mask for any reason, do so far away from others. We encourage you to double mask if you do not have access to high-grade masks such as KN95's. All cast and crew will be wearing KN95's.
  5. Though this show mainly takes place outdoors, we ask that you socially distance as best as possible.
  6. Please do not eat or drink during the show. We want to limit the amount of times masks are down while around other people. Eating and drinking during a show is also a distraction to actors and other audience members.

Rehearsal period begins the week of January 10, 2022 until February 26, 2022. We rehearse 3 times per week every Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and *Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Tech and Performances will be immersive and site-specific with a combination of indoor and outdoor settings and will take place at our partner organization in Southeast San Diego.

If cast in the show, the production fee will be $325 per person. This can be paid in full, or made into 2 installments at $175 each. The production fee and ticket sales helps cover only a fraction of the production costs to put on a show. There are many expenses involved such as rent, utilities, creative and administrative staff, marketing, licensing, and more that we rely upon to make these dreams a reality. COSTUME FEE: Due to COVID and the health and safety of our participants and families, we will not be making, laundering, dry cleaning, or maintaining costumes. Our Costume Designer asks for measurements to fit each cast member, and we will ask each participant to pull from their closet, and/or purchase a brand new costume for each of their character(s). Each participant will be responsible for cleaning, laundering, dry cleaning, and maintaining their own costume. The great thing is that they can keep their costume after the show! The average costume fee can range in price anywhere from $60-$150 depending on the character(s). We will do our best to keep it affordable and wearable so it can be up-cycled or worn again for everyday wear. 


TRAINING IN CLASSES: At Maraya, we firmly believe that consistent training keeps young artists in top performance shape at all times. This show is vocally and physically demanding, and we want each performer to be conditioned to perform with rigor and care. As such, each cast member is required to be enrolled in at least (1) Fundamental Technique class with Maraya Performing Arts. For the leads, we highly recommend taking (2-5) classes per week such as: Vocal Performance, Tap, Musical Theatre Performance, Hip Hop, Acro and/or Ballet. 

The next session of classes begins January 10, 2022. We offer classes in Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre Dance Performance, Hip Hop, Breaking, Acro, Ballet, Contemporary and more!

You’ve heard the saying, “It Takes a Village.” Well...that is certainly true in show business! Working together as a community is one of the many benefits of theatre. The arts have the transformative power to unite individuals and communities together around a shared common goal. Family and community are core values at MARAYA, and as a brand new organization that opened during COVID, we rely on our MARAYA Family to contribute in any and all ways possible to ensure the success of their children and their peers in the show. Accordingly, we will require each cast member’s friends/family to volunteer at least 10 hours towards the production of the show. We will provide the job descriptions and training, so don’t worry about a thing!  Committees include performing tasks such as scenic building, driving/loading trucks, making minor costume alterations, ticket sales, posting fliers, social media, ushering, and more!



We rely on social media, traditional print ads, fliers, and word of mouth to sell tickets. Each participant will be asked to sell a minimum of 10 total tickets for the run of the show. The participant that sells the most tickets will win a MARAYA gift card of $50 that can be used toward tuition or merchandise. Tickets for the show will be $10 each. Absolutely NO comps, discounted tickets available. Each show will be limited to only 100 guests per show, so we encourage you to get your tickets early. 

When your guests purchase their tickets, there will be a comment box where they can write the name of the cast member who should receive credit for the ticket sale. This will help us track how many tickets each person has sold.

Please advise and thank your guests for joining us for our very first immersive, site-specific youth theatre musical! There are instructions on the ticket link on how to best prepare for the show including what to wear, what to expect, how to best participate and be a part of an immersive theatrical experience! 

*Wear comfortable shoes like sneakers (no heels or open toed shoes).

*Wear weather appropriate attire including:  light jacket/sweater, or sunscreen, hat, sunglasses,

* Wear a mask (disposable medical mask, K95 or N95 masks are highly recommended). No single layer cloth, bandanas, gaiters will be permitted.

*The site is BOTH indoors and outdoors, and the audience will be expected to move and follow the actors. The site is also ADA accessible and first passage through the space will be given to those in wheelchairs, walkers, canes and need special accomodations.

*Explain to your guests that this will be like walking through a museum, or a guided tour with the actors.

*The show run time will be approximately 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission.

*ADA Restrooms facilities at the school are available for use.

*Additional outdoor handwashing stations will also be available.

*There will be both single seats, and bleacher seats available on a first come, first served basis, so we highly encourage you to arrive early to claim your seat(s). Again, you will be moving with the cast, so seating will be somewhat temporary.

MAL - our hero and Maleficent’s daughter; under her hardened, sarcastic exterior, she has a sense of justice and a heart of gold. 


EVIE - the Evil Queen Grimhilde’s daughter; hides her brilliance behind a superficial, image-obsessed attitude. 


JAY - Jafar’s son’ an outwardly arrogant thief, he conceals a strategic, collaborative nature. 


CARLOS - Cruella de Vil’s son; despite a fear of dogs and just about everything else, he has the capacity to be brave and kind. 


MALEFICENT - the infamous evil fair; a profoundly selfish absentee parent with an unquenchable taste for vengeance. 


GRIMHILDE -  Snow White’s wicked adversary; an aging beauty queen, still desperate to be the fairest of them all. 


JAFAR - Aladdin’s nemesis, a slimy, washed-up crime lord desperate for a way back to the top. 


CRUELLA DE VIL - a Dalmation-loving dog-snatcher; an obsessive, eccentric, and overbearing helicopter mom. 




BEN - son of the Beast and Belle, a classically regal, optimistic kid who bears the weight of soon becoming King of Auradon 


KING BEAST - Ben’s father and King of Auradon; royal and rule-driven, he knows a bit about being marginalized. 


QUEEN BELLE -  Ben’s mother and Queen of Auradon; warm, but cautious, she doesn’t understand her son’s generation. 


FAIRY GODMOTHER - headmistress of Auradon Prep; busy and bubbly, she’ll do anything to keep the school afloat. 


JANE - Fairy Godmother’s daughter; meek and mousy, but hungry for attention, she’s looking for her moment to shine. 


CHAD - Cinderell and Prince Charming’s son; an arrogant and spoiled blockheard, he’s never wanted for anything. 


AUDREY - Sleeping Beauty’s daughter; the malicious queen bee of Auradon Prep, she has her eye on the throne. 


DOUG - Dopey’s son; nerdy and sweet, he does all the work that his fellow students don’t want to do.
